Friendship Is the New Self-Care

Updated: Oct 1

For years, self-care has been marketed as something you buy. A quiet bubble bath. A candlelit ritual. A solo night in with face masks and herbal tea.

And while there’s nothing wrong with those moments of indulgence, we love a well-earned reset, during our journey of building The Femme Club, we’ve come to a deeper understanding of self-care. One that doesn’t just soothe you for an evening but sustains you in the long run.

Over the years, we’ve explored many insights around self-care. But one truth continues to stand out: friendship is a powerful and essential part of it. And it doesn’t need to be hard. We’ve grown a community of women from all walks of life, and in our own lives, we’ve experienced the benefits of making meaningful friendships that span across cities, countries, and cultures.

Friendship Isn’t a Luxury. It’s a Lifeline.

The older I get, the more I understand the importance of quality friendships. Friendship is a cornerstone of emotional wellness.

Science backs it up. Research shows that strong, meaningful relationships can reduce stress, lower the risk of depression, boost happiness, and even improve physical health. Having close friends has been linked to better immune function, heart health, and longevity.

There’s nothing more powerful than a friend lifting you up, cheering you on, and being there when you need them most. Everything gets better with the right people around you.

And yet, in today’s hyper-connected world, so many women feel alone. Even in crowded cities. Even with full calendars. Even while scrolling through hundreds of highlight reels on social media.

Loneliness has quietly become one of the biggest wellness challenges of our time.

Self-Care Isn’t Always Solo

The self-care narrative often centers around individual rituals, things you do alone to recharge. But at The Femme Club, we’ve seen that some of the most healing and nourishing moments happen with others.

A deep conversation over dinner. A weekend getaway where you feel fully seen. A friend who reflects your light back to you on the days you forget it’s there.

True connection is restorative. It reminds you of who you are.

Friendship holds space for your joy and your tears. It offers perspective when you’re spiraling, encouragement when you’re stuck, and celebration when you rise.

It’s not about how many friends you have. It’s about the quality, the depth, and the safety you feel in those relationships.

Make Space for Your People

Here’s our invitation to you:

Prioritize your friendships the way you’d prioritize a workout, a morning routine, or your skincare. Not as an afterthought, but as a non-negotiable part of your wellness.

  • Schedule time together. Not just “we should catch up,” but actual dates on the calendar.

  • Check in regularly, even when life gets busy. Especially then.

  • Invest in shared experiences that create memories, deepen trust, and invite laughter.

  • Surround yourself with women who make you feel like more of yourself, not less.

The Femme Club was built around this truth: that when women come together in intentional, nourishing spaces, something powerful happens. Confidence blooms. Healing begins. A sense of belonging returns.

Connection Is Care

Self-care isn’t always quiet or solitary. Sometimes it’s laughing until your stomach hurts. Sometimes it’s being held through your heartbreak. Sometimes it’s someone whispering me too — and suddenly, you feel less alone.

So yes, take the bath. Light the candle. Do the mask.

But also, text the friend. Make the plan. Share the moment.

Because maybe the most powerful act of self-care isn’t something you do alone.

Maybe it’s something you do together.
